If the 1-2 start to the season and Duke coming to town wasn’t exciting enough I give you the week 4 Notre Dame depth chart with no changes from last Saturday! There are also no new injuries which is always nice, however, we have some small updates on a couple of injured athletes.

We’re just about another week or two from learning the fate of Nick Watkins. They’ll be looking at his broken arm soon and this week it sounded a lot like Kelly was leaning towards a redshirt again while pointing out Watkins had to play as a freshman and (paraphrasing here) that it wasn’t a super awesome decision.

Justin Brent continues to recover from his off-season lisfranc injury and not all that well, mind you. Kelly mentioned that he’s struggling with things and they are thinking about sitting him out the whole season. That’d be back-to-back seasons without seeing the field for Brent. He could head into 2017 as a redshirt junior with zero snaps from scrimmage as a former Top 100 recruit. Pretty amazing.

Tevon Coney, Kevin Stepherson, Dexter Williams, and Ashton White have had their cases heard by the university and will not be suspended.

Jay Hayes continues his slow way back from an ankle injury back in camp. He didn’t play in the opener than has seen 9 and 15 snaps in the last two games, respectively. Can he get up to 25 snaps against Duke?

As we head into the fourth game it’s a good time to take a look at who is playing among the true freshmen.

Devin Studstill, Daelin Hayes, Jalen Elliott, Julian Love, Kevin Stepherson, Julian Okwara, and Chase Claypool have each played in every game so far in 2016.

Spencer Perry played in the opener but hasn’t seen the field since. Khalid Kareem, Jamir Jones, and Donte Vaughn all played against Nevada but not against Texas or Michigan State. I’d imagine all of these players will continue playing maybe with the exception of Perry.

Those who have not played at all include Ian Book, Tony Jones, Tommy Kraemer, Liam Eichenberg, Parker Boudreaux, Deon McIntosh, Ade Ogundeji, Jonathan Jones, Troy Pride, D.J. Morgan, and John Shannon. This group all looks pretty safe to redshirt.
