Notre Dame Lacrosse will have its 19th annual Steak and Hot Dog Game Saturday at 10:00 am at Arlotta Stadium.  Admission is free of charge, and live updates will be broadcast at @ndlacrosse Instagram and Periscope.

This year’s version pits Team Sexton (Gold), led by senior John Sexton and coached by offensive coordinator Matt Karweck vs. Team Wynne (Blue) led by senior Mikey Wynne and coached by new volunteer assistant John Crawley. The stakes (steaks?) are high:  winners get a steak dinner, losers have to settle for hot dogs. The seniors drafted the two teams this past Wednesday.

Rosters present us with evenly matched teams.  We won’t take sides or predict an outcome.

What to expect:

1) Fans will have the opportunity to see how well the Irish’s #1 ranked recruiting class is integrating itself into the team (the first time Notre Dame has held this rating).  We also understand a freshman on Team Gold is among the reasons why we’ll see football great Rick Mirer on campus this weekend.

2) Notre Dame will introduce new volunteer assistant John Crawley.  Crawley is a two time All-American and two-time captain from Johns Hopkins.  His addition to the staff has been rumored for months, and we are pleased to see it made official.  The MLL pro for the Charlotte Hounds is a highly regarded player and leader.

3) While this may vex 18 Stripes resident uniform expert Eric Murtaugh, recent editions of this game have involved players choosing various retro sports attire for the occasion.

4) Goal celebrations.  In this game, ridiculous goal celebrations occur and are encouraged.  Fans of Notre Dame lacrosse are familiar with the viral “Dead Fish” celly performed flawlessly by attackman Ryder Garnsey on the occasion of his 2017 overtime game-winner versus Virginia.  As such, the bar has been set high for this game.

What began as a team building exercise nearly two decades ago has become one of the premier events in the national lacrosse fall calendar. It is a practice encouraged in many USLacrosse coaches’ clinics, and it is not uncommon to see other teams post their tweets for their versions of the game.  We encourage all coming to campus for the Miami game visit Arlotta Stadium in the morning for what will certainly be an entertaining event.
