Today’s concept started with a pair of ideas. The first was taking some inspiration from South Carolina basketball’s Under Armour shorts following their run to the Final Four this spring. From there I wanted to try something futuristic on a Notre Dame uniform.
Full disclosure, we’ve kicked around several ideas on futuristic uniforms and it’s easily the most difficult thing to pull off for concepts. Especially in the sports of football and baseball things have been so traditional that it’s hard to imagine what uniforms for these sports will look like 50 years down the road.
So, this concept was basically wandering in the wilderness until it was finished. Beyond mimicking the shoulders with the pants there wasn’t a strong concept at all to follow. A bunch of random piping was added because if there’s anything that ushered in a new era in uniforms in recent years it’s exactly that. In my defense, if the gold piping is removed this one is nearing passable.
I will say no more this is my least favorite, and through nearly 50 sketches and concepts, I’m pretty sure it will remain my least favorite. I wasn’t even going to publish it but I did so for two reasons. One, I firmly believe you should show all your work no matter what. Two, you never know if someone will like it. If there’s anyone out there who does, this is for you.
I like these. They kind of remind me of the lacrosse team, which wins games, maybe because of the jerseys.
Yea they do have that vibe.
Agreed, these feel like Lax jerseys. Remove the gold piping and they’re not that terrible. But definitely not good as they stand now.
I suppose you and I will never agree on tastes. I think these are outstanding.
Yeah these give off a “high school with a stupidly expensive stadium” vibe.
