Our 21st Notre Dame football uniform concept comes from the mind of our graphic designer Clint who chimes in with this second concept for 18 Stripes.

This one is simple. As many have already discovered the Irish will be wearing special “Rockne Heritage” uniforms in a few weeks for Senior Day against the United State Naval Academy. These uniforms were met with general applause and should be an interesting side note to what’s hopefully an exciting final game in the new football stadium.

What if we tweaked them? What if for hypothetical sake the team wasn’t playing well (or even, gasp, losing!) at halftime and came out in a change of wardrobe for the 3rd quarter?

What’s interesting is that with the 90th anniversary of the 1927 game against Navy–the first in the series–that was the first truly memorable moment of the school using green uniforms. During that game, Knute Rockne started the backups in the traditional blue, fell behind 6-0, and then inserted the starters wearing green on their way to a 19-6 victory.

With the recent talk of the 1977 “Green Jersey Game” against USC so fresh in our minds what if this Navy game is actually the game where the green is strategically used at halftime? Did we just spoil the secret!??

It would be kind of cool (as long as we win!) bringing out an alternate to an alternate jersey for what I’m guessing would be the first time in college football history. Then again, there’d have to be 100+ extra helmets ready to go with green facemasks and little time to have an entire team change their socks and have their ankles re-taped. But, you never know…
